Pharmacy Residency Program - Area Information

Life in Northeastern Pennsylvania Wilkes-Barre is located in Northeastern, PA along the Susquehanna River. Activities in the area include golf, fishing, hunting, boating and skiing.  There are several golf courses in the area, as well as nearby Montage Mountain which provides skiing and snowboarding. Concerts are also held during the summer on Montage Mountain. State Parks provide many outdoor activities. The Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre is the home of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, (the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins). There are several shopping malls, movie theaters and restaurants located in the immediate area. Wilkes-Barre is near several major highways and is located 2 hours from Philadelphia and New York City and approximately 3-4 hours from Baltimore and Washington D.C.  The Pocono Mountains are located approximately 45 minutes from Wilkes-Barre.  The Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport (AVP) is within 15 minutes of our Medical Center. * Links will take you outside of the Department of Veterans Affairs Website.
