Wilkes-Barre VA Announces Associate Director Selection

The Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center announced the selection of the Associate Director, Mr. Joseph Sharon effective July 14, 2013.

“Mr. Sharon is an excellent addition to our Executive Leadership Team,” said Margaret B. Caplan, Medical Center Director. “He is dedicated to our mission, the health and well-being of our Veterans, and brings a great deal of management experience to the position.”

As the Associate Director, Mr. Sharon will be responsible for a broad range of services including the Equal Employment Opportunity Office, Facilities Management, Fiscal, Human Resources, VA Police Service and Emergency Preparedness, Voluntary Service, Nutrition and Food Services, Environmental Management, Logistics and the Veterans’ Canteen. 

Mr. Sharon’s previous VA service includes assignments as the Chief of Pharmacy Services, where he managed 45 employees and a budget of $38 million, and the Interim Associate Director.  Prior to joining VA,
Mr. Sharon gained many years of experience managing various departments for private sector facilities.
Mr. Sharon has a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Temple University, a doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Florida and a Master’s in Health Care Administration from Scranton University.

The Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center (WBVAMC) is a 173-bed, teaching facility located in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.  Each year, WBVAMC serves over 40,000 Veterans in approximately 18 counties in Pennsylvania and New York with over 378,000 outpatient visits.  In addition to the main facility, the facility operates five Community Based Outpatient Clinics which are located in Allentown, Williamsport, Sayre, Bangor and Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania.
